Car Rental Gary
Indiana
Man is dependent upon his transportation for going to work, shopping, vacations or just going to the corner store for a loaf of bread. We are a
car-culture here in the USA, with two or more cars in every driveway. But, with all this dependency, what do we do when our steed needs service, repairs or a fender pushed back out?
Car rental Gary Indiana is the answer for temporary vehicle replacement.
Gary
, on the
eastern fringe of the Chicago Metropolitan area
where the car rental industry began in 1918, has
all the car rental agency options available in the
metro center.
The major rent-a-car agencies are located at the airports to serve the business and vacation travelers. There are also in-town locations in Gary for all of those national companies at the airports: Avis, Alamo, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National.
All of these companies are represented, but there are also rental locations for local operators and smaller chains like Rent-A-Wreck. The name is a
misnomer because that latter company actually
rents late model vehicles, though they started
with well used cars initially serving the less
affluent clientele.
Local car rental agencies are often associated with new car dealerships where they are rented to service and body shop customers. A check of the Yellow Pages shows that car rentals are available at a number of
area
dealerships.
Most of the rent-a-car companies are actually an amalgamation of franchisees operating under one banner and subject to rigid rules of service dictated by the franchiser. Enterprise RAC and The Hertz Corporation, the two RAC giants, are mostly (Hertz) or entirely company owned (Enterprise).
Enterprise is the behemoth of the car rental industry, having wrested the title from Hertz a number of years ago. They employ more than 65,000 people who handle the business of renting more than one million vehicles in the Enterprise fleet. Their share of
the car rental market is $12 billion.
Enterprise has a number of locations serving local car rental needs, none of them at the airport, but all within easy reach of most of their customer base. This is made up mostly of people needing a short term rental to replace a car laid up for repairs.
Other than local operators, the other major car rental agencies are located at the airports or near major hotels. This enables
them to cater to both business and vacation
traveler alike. |
